“Silica” an ongoing series about Diatoms which are a shadowed counterpart of the rain forest aka “lungs of the earth” that derive in the ocean. However over the years their importance seems to be coming into light. Their biggest contributing factor is supplying 40 percent of the earths oxygen thus sustaining all animal and human life forms along with many other contributing factors. We rely on them, not only for oxygen but to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Having said this, climate change is a large topic in todays society, and it is happening at a rapid pace never seen before. These microscopic beings could be what potentially saves us from mass extinction.
SILICA

The series takes everyday hardware items (waste) that replicate a real diatom aesthetically. In real life they create beautiful kaleidoscopic forms, the series is creating an ironic but realistic twist referencing to the importance of their preservation.
